How to repair a large hole in my concrete porch?
I have a concrete porch made of concrete blocks. One of the blocks has a large hole in the side of it. What can I get to repair the hole. It appears to a be hollow inside. I live in Michigan where the weather changes often and I believe it was due to extreme temp changes, and also snow/ice.
Answer: As long as it is not a structural issue you can patch it with any of a hundred different types of mortar patches...If it is along an edge that is exposed and can be seen...you will want to do a little dressing...
Use a pre-mixed bag or mortar like quickcrete add water until is it thoroughly moist and workable like pancake batter...Then use a trowel to fill in the void but leave a little bit in the bag and don't fill the outside of the hole all the way...It will likely sag when you try to fill it in and you'll need a substrate to place a final patch coat without sag or separation...
A day later after the plug has hardened mix up a small amount to cap off the edge...After you cap it walk away for an hour or two...then come back and run a broom or soft bristle scrub brush over it to try to blend the pattern so it looks like that of the block...
Also if the block are colored like pink or brown...you can buy a box of Davis Color to add to the mortar to match the color of the block...
Hope this helps.
