How do you remove rust from an old metal porch swing?
I have a circa 1950's metal porch glider. It used to be my grandparents' and I inherited it. Over the years the paint has faded and it has collected some rust. I'd like to remove the rust and then paint it with rust-proof enamel spray paint. Does anyone have any solutions for the rust removal and pointers for when I go to paint it?
Answer: Use a product called "ospho" avaialble at home deot, lowes, or about any paint store...I will give you a link showing the product..I believe the link will show gallon prices by the case, but it is avaialable in quarts at the hardware stors..this product you spray on the rust with a common spray bottle and let it set overnight.. then the next day brush it off with a wire brush, prime and paint...this product actually changes the rust into a different chemical compound and it is no longer rust..I am a 37 year experienced painter and we use it faithfully...naval jelly is kind of obsolete now days but works good..but takes more time and effort..You have to brush the gel on and alot of other procedures using alot more time..with ospho..you spray and go..
